We found this quote (punctuation ours) on French by Design this morning and have been mulling it all day. It was unattributed. When we did a search to see where it might have come from, we found Weight Watchers and Islam and a bunch of other sources.

What do we want MOST? Can we subject the wants of the moment for the WANTMOSTS?

We’re not that simple… Sometimes the WANTMOSTS aren’t clear. Sometimes the Wants-of-the-Moment turn out to be a path to some big lesson that takes us to the WANTMOSTS, or facilitate the WANTMOSTS, like the amazing guy in “This is my Home”, whose crazy collections made of in-the-moment ‘buys’ and ‘likes’ grew into an eccentric artifact-stuffed storefront home that brought him friends and visitors and a deeply fulfilling life.

No simple answers here.

But we like the sign. It asks a good question – What Do We Want Most ?- which puts a few things in perspective.

  1. I agree, not a simple thing. Our culture is so weirdly paradoxical– puritanical, yet craving instant gratification. Sometimes it’s good to just sit with a feeling of “want now” and see what happens once it washes through you; sometimes it’s better to take an opportunity when it arises, spontaneously. Always good to think about, though!

  2. I believe this quote is from Bonnie McCullough. It has been one of my favorite quotes for years.

“Don’t give up what you want most for what you want at the moment”.
