One of the things we love about Aqquindex is the many works we find from 60’s, 70’s and 80’s that have continuing panache and viability. This coffee table from Pierre Paulin and Kho Liang is one. It made us think WHY NOT have a coffee table that is not a regular rectangle or round? And WHY NOT stripe a coffee table? We imagined what it would take to run with the two ideas:

…take 1-inch or double-thick piece of plywood and cut with a jigsaw into an interesting shape…
…edge with thick iron-on wood edge-banding…
…prime the top and edges…
…paint the top surface white, let dry…
…use masking tape to mask off stripes…
…paint the spaces in between black…
…carefully paint the edge…
…then afix it to a base (which we’d probably find at a second hand store).

Voila! er, sort of. It may be beyond our abilities right now. That made us hunt around for simpler iterations on the idea of striped.

Homedit has a bunch of interesting table iterations. We love this striper done with tape…Wonder how to secure the tape so it doesn’t get torn up or fray. Maybe a coat of polyurethane?

There are lots of possibilities. Here’s another swell one from the 70’s.
