In a recent New York Times T Magazine, we loved the a former Tuscan convent restored by designer Holly Lueders and her photographer daughter, Venetia Sacret Young, largely by their own hands. They sewed much of the textiles themselves, like this rustic-chic bedspread with it’s unexpected, huge panels. We’re going to try it by sewing vertical or horizontal seams at 12 to 15-inch intervals on a heavy king linen sheet OR perhaps sew panels of fabric together.

The lace bed skirt is a perfect contrast, and lovely if you don’t need to hide anything under the bed.

We spotted some other clever ideas for using textiles in their rustic convent:

The pillow cover on the ladderback chair seems to be made by folding the fabric like a package or gift around the insert and stitching it…

We love the curtains hung from a branch (or perhaps it is a piece of bamboo), and the too-long skirt on the side table. (The array of prints tacked on the wall sans frames make for a kind of wallpaper….
