Leafing through a file of ‘good ideas’, I found this image of a ripped linen room divider by Ellen Silverman. Ripped linen is so beautiful, there’s no need to hem it.

Come to think of it, this king linen sheet hiding a fold-out bed in my old apartment would have been much prettier, and more dramatic, had the edges been ripped, rather than hemmed..

  1. I love linen, but have also used heavy cotton muslin (or even cheaper painter’s drop cloths) in the same way. There’s something about a broad swath of rough fabric that is beautiful.

  2. Love the curtain hiding the bed. I want to do that in my bedroom to make a closet. What hardware did you use?
