Although we still occasionally scroll through the usual suspects of home design websites, we find ourselves mostly bored by their same-old same-old mid-century or luxe”show house” looks.  We are more often delighted by Livet Hemma —Life at Home—  Ikea Sweden’s blog that features clever uses of their products.

The most recent fine idea came from designer Fay Toogood’s installation using Ikea products during Milan Design Week. She took a simple Osted rug, flatwoven from natural agave, and painted it white.

We found ourselves peering closely into the photos to see the detail better when we read a snippet of google-translated copy:

The mats Osted is rollade with white primer…Why not hang the carpet on the wall, you have a personal work of art!

The “painting” on the wall is, in fact a roughly painted carpet that would be wonderful on a floor.

Ikea’s inexpensive rugs could also be stenciled, like these more expensive coir, jute or sisal rugs.

The great Paola Navone’s design for a painted-right-on-the-floor-rug would also smashing.
