(Video link here.) Over the transom came a note from a reader named Ms. Murray:

Hi Improvised Life! I thought you might be interested in this video on what Jim Carey has been up to in recent years. It is a wonderful contemplation on the mindfulness of color.

And so it is, a whole side of Jim Carrey we would never have guessed: Jim Carrey the artist who has much to say about vocation, art, healing…

What you do in life chooses you. You can choose, not to do it. You can choose to try and do something safer. Your vocation chooses you…

…I don’t know what painting teaches me, I know that it just frees me. Free from the future, free from the past, free from regret, free from worry…

…Something inside you is always telling a story. I believe that every single thing you see and hear is talking to you…

…You know, the bottom line with all of this, whether is performance or it’s art or it’s sculpture, is love. We wanna show ourselves and have that be accepted…

…I love being alive and the art is the evidence of that…

Thank you Ms. Murray!

  6. What an unexpected pleasure to see Jim Carrey’s artwork. Don’t we turn ourselves inside out when we feel truly free to express ourselves. I admire his artistic courage. We “onlookers” can only begin to feel what he has experienced in his life.

  8. Wow! I always tell people that Careys’ who spell their name with an ‘e’ are the famous ones. Throw in an extra ‘r’ and OMG look what you get. I dabble in between working at a prison for a living, but Jim has inspired me to step it up. Very inspirational…thank you. Pamela Cary
