We first discovered hacker-tinkerer-madman Grant Thompson the The King of Random when we stumbled on a video of his Solar-Scorcher. He snagged the screen from a free projection TV on Craigslist and turned into an enormous magnifiying glass that could act as a powerful, eco-friendly death ray capable of heating things to 2000 degrees Farenheit. Just for the hell of it, to see what would happen, and ignite hot dogs and melt metal. A man after our own hearts!
It turns out Thompson has a YouTube channel full of experimental, useless and USEFUL hacks.
Some like 10 Life Hacks You Need To Know For Christmas! have the pace and sound of an infomercial. In the midst of a host of cheesy and curiously-compelling hacks we found this beauty: a way of folding paper so you can send it without an envelope. Voila! Instant holiday greeting. Unlike Thompson, who tends to recyle EVERYTHING somewhat pathologically, we’d use some nice paper to send our greeting, with whatever message or image we feel like putting on it. Perhaps a poem, like the ones we printed for our DIY Sheaf of Poems gift, or an invitation to a party or…
We managed to excerpt JUST that one fab hack from Thompson’s video. But if you like, you can watch the whole thing here.
