We dislike the glut of advertising everywhwere, especially when it appears in our view, as a giant ad for Calvin Klein underwear did on a billboard in sitelines of the Hudson River several years ago. Feeling the same way, Etienne Lavie imagined what the Paris would look like if classical paintings replaced ads, and photoshopped his imaginings into real images.

…For us, it changes the experience of the city…softening and illuminating it…

…We’ve read though that some people actually like advertising…

Which do you prefer, ads or art, or a combo of the two?

Which brings us to another question: What are your thoughts on seeing advertising on Improvised Life?

  1. This reminds me of how art uplifts the spirit, and when viewed in this context, brings it alive. More to everyday beauty!

  2. Billboards with art instead of ads would nourish the eyes inviting the world in, rather than bracing oneself against it. . Taking in beauty or squalor at least evokes emotion or compassion. Guileless nonsense that creeps into our vision only creates aversion and sensual shut down. It takes energy not to see what you don’t want to see. It contracts the breath. Seeing art would offer a sense of openness and curiosity. Easier breathing.

  3. Ah yes. You put your finger on it. “Easier breathing.”

  4. I’m not crazy about ads, but I mostly ignore them everywhere else. Overall, better a Improvised Life with ads than no Improvisd Life at all.
