Lately, we’ve gotten into NBC’s Blindspot, a television series about a beautiful woman who is found completely tattooed and naked in a duffel bag in Times Square. To promote it, NBC has rolled out a massive tattoo-driven marketing campaign, including a “Tattoo Yourself” image generator app on their website. You choose a tattooed male or female body, then “upload your photo“.  They didn’t specify which of our photos we could upload, so we improvised and uploaded some faces in the news.

We particularly love the “Illusion of Self chain around the guy’s neck…

Once we got started, it was too interesting to stop…

We found ourselves viewing these very public figures in a new way, imagining them if they made a whole set of other choices in their lives.

We wonder how many people are using the app in creative ways, and if this was part of NBC’s plan. Would they be happy with people monkeying around, or would they get Big Brotherish and put the kibosh on ’em?

It’s made us realize that there IS a subtle Big Brother paranoia in our heads…

We haven’t been able to find evidence of people uploading images and posting them on social media. Could that subtle paranoia be at play? Or were they just not interested…

(There are lots of tattoo tester and simulator apps out there where you can add any tattoos you want to your photos…like Tattoo You for iPhone and Tattoo my Photo for Android. ) They are really fun to play around with…
