I was about to chop a bunch of chives from my CSA when I noticed it was full of pink flowers and buds. I stopped dead, realizing I almost missed the little gift hidden in plain sight. Dinner could wait.

The wondrous little arrangement took all of five minutes.

This time of year members of the allium family (like shallots, onions, garlic and chives) make for all sorts of lovely, impromptu (often-free) arrangements. They can often be bought at local farmer’s markets,  or may be growing in your garden…

  1. That you for reminding me of this. We have very little sun in our garden so big, wonderful bouquets are not forthcoming. Having an eye for just these kinds of opportunities is great… I am taking my cup of coffee and snippers and heading out to see what I come up with.
