Every morning when we open up our office for work, we take a minute to look at this image taped on our wall, of artist Lucio Fontana approaching a blank canvas. We never tire of it.

We view Fontana’s canvas as the day or a project or a new path, full of possibility AND…

…We marvel at his courage, forthrightly walking up to a blank canvas to make the first mark, that will determine the ones to come.

The image is fuel and reminder, to have courage and START…

Begin anywhere.

We know that once we do, any fear we have will recede and ideas will come, some better or with more ease than others…They will come if we show up for them.

Gary Snyder described this very amazing process in “How Poetry Comes to Me“*

It comes blundering over the
Boulders at night, it stays
Frightened outside the
Range of my campfire
I go to meet it at the
Edge of the light”

What is your blank canvas? What will you go to meet today?

  1. Beautiful inspiration & reminder, to celebrate rather than worry the unknown. Thank you for the creative spirit! Xo

  2. “We never tire of it.”

Sally, I think YOU said the key words today.

    Thanks,
    with a smile.

  3. Thank you Viv AND Gallagher. That has been a practice for MANY years. When the picture gets yellowed and tattered, I print out a new one (:
