Yesterday, over our transom came Lynzy Lab’s utterly direct, charming, pitch-perfect commentary on the “It’s a scary time for men” idea. With only a ukelele, a cell phone camera and a Twitter feed, Lab made a smart, insightful video that went viral.

For us, Lab’s 2-minute description of the reality sandwiches most women live with daily is startling; we’d never seen so many of the constraints we’ve navigated our entire life — many having to do with physical safety — listed in one place.

I can’t walk to my car late at night while on the phone
I can’t open up my windows when I’m home alone
I can’t go to a bar without a chaperone
And I can’t wear a mini skirt if it’s the only one I own

I can’t live in an apartment if it’s on the first floor.
I can’t be wearing silk pajamas when I answer the door.
I can’t have another drink even if I want more.
And I can’t make you feel invalid, unseen or ignore

We’re heartened by Lab’s video, made with simple tools and a forthright personal voice, that lays bare what remains largely below the surface, and offers a solution: VOTE.
