Though we’re not fans of Twitter, we are enthralled by British writer Robert Macfarlane’s remarkable feed @RobGMacfarlane. He is the author of the many books including The Lost Words which rekindles the magic of words from the natural world that have been disappearing from our daily language. He uses Twitter not so much to “message” but to send out flashes of illumination about landscape, nature and the human heart.

We find his remarkable, ancient, deeply expressive “Word of the day” is often like a little poem. We are pondering what “writing” trees themselves practice….

…and reflecting on the period of vargavinter we just came through…

Among the mind-shifting “Words of the Day” are other kinds of poetry: insights that point to trails we might want to follow…
