Over the days that the bright pink cherry blossoms fell like snow around Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem, two hearts formed out negative space appeared. Unsigned, anonymous, moving, they are a spontaneous, generous act made by a fellow human: beauty created out of beauty.
We found the perfect Basho* haiku to accompaniment them:
On stones covered with spring pinks
I’d like a few drinks
And then a good snooze.
…And…
What a strange thing!
to be alive
beneath cherry blossoms.
